On our last day we went to Marsaxlokk, a beautiful fishing village located in the south east of Malta.

On Sundays, there is a Sunday market and fish market and it is highly recommended you go there for Sunday lunch! We checked out the bus times from Valletta the day before as we knew it would be popular. There were long queues when we arrived early in the morning, luckily more buses were put on. We got an express bus to Marsalokk, we couldn’t use our 7 day ticket on this service as this was a special service, but it did mean we could there quicker and there was only one destination.
Upon arrival, we saw a lovely bay with colour boats and the sun was reflecting on the water. There was a market selling all types of things and there were boat trips if you so wished and you could purchase local produce and tourist mementoes. We had read that it’s wise to have an early lunch in Marsaxlokk as that is when there is fresh fish in the restaurants. We were recommended ‘Roots Restaurant which was a fabulous family run restaurant. The owner and his family were so kind and welcoming and the food was absolutely amazing. We had scallops, sea bream, seabass, calamari, mussels and lovely potatoes and the portions were amazing and the best meal of our trip.

I’d recommend visiting Marsaxlokk to have an early lunch and visit Roots! Also, make sure you get the normal bus back, as it’s once an hour to Valletta.
