Doolough is located in the western county of Mayo, Ireland and is featured on the Wild Atlantic Way which is highly recommended. The Wild Atlantic Way is a coastal drive which at 1700 miles over 2,500 km is one of the longest signed routes on this planet.
Driving through the picturesque village of Louisburgh and on the Connemara road you will notice the wonderful and spectacular scenery. You will see the Mwreelrea Mountain and Sheefry Hills and a beautiful lake.
There is a memorial stone which is called the Doolough Memorial in reference to the Great Potato Famine which was a very sad time in Irish history where millions died of starvation and many emigrated to USA and beyond.
This valley had a beautiful vista that is haunting at the same time.
