Ooh lala, this is one of my favourite places I have visited! This walled city is located in the Aude region.
The city is medieval, I felt like I was Belle in Beauty and The Beast or one of the extras from Labrinth, the 1980s film!
As you know, we were staying in Cruscades so we all visited for the day, Carcassonne is only 38km away by car.
When driving up to city, you will see the turrets and the walled city, it’s so picturesque and is on the UNESCO list. Check out the yellow paint!
We took a train around the outskirts which cost 7 euro each and then we walked along the cobbled streets where there were lots of shops, some a bit commercialised. There are plenty of restaurants and places to spend your money. The restaurants were good, make sure you go to the square where you can tantalise your tastebuds!
Make sure you visit the castle, the views are amazing from the ramparts.
Take your time and take lots of photographs.
You can take a boat trip on the Canal Du Midi further downtown.
Meander along the streets and find wonderful boutiques. Make sure you visit the food market, there is so much to see.
Be mindful as the stalls close rather quickly and the restaurants around the squares soon set their tables up. My family had moules to die for.
One of the streets is rather instagrammable, make sure you visit it!
I’d definitely go back again, sample the vista at night and go shopping!
