My recent trip to Prague was fantastic. I did not know what to expect and what a beauty it is.

We went for two nights, flew from London Gatwick to  Prague’s airport and shared a shuttle transfer service  which cost 450 Czech Crowns ( single trip) which is equivalent of £14 for two of us.

Our hotel was fantastic, it was called Hotel Unic, and it sure was unique, fab decor, comfy beds and a tasty breakfast. The hotel was about 15 minutes walk to the Old Square.

If  you are staying near The Old Town, the city is walkable and you don’t need a travelcard, just have your comfy shoes to walk the cobbled streets and make sure you look out for the trams!

As usual, we went on a walking tour, this time, we added on to a tour with the firm I had booked but it was the wrong group! So instead of a 2hr/3hr walk we went to Jewish Quarter for an hour. It was interesting to hear about the history and about the Czech author Kafka.

So we did a Shewholovesadventure tour, it was rather fun, random and quirky.

We  explored the city and walked along St Charles’ Bridge which is pedestrianised, there  are lots of  holy statues, musicians and artists  selling their wares. We wandered around taking in the atmosphere both at day and at night which you must do..

There was a fancy dress carnival going on, I asked all the locals what it was about but no one seemed to know. All rather random, this made me fall in love with the city even more. It was fun to see adults and children alike enjoying dressing up, milling around, listening to live music and eating local specialities, drinking mulled wine and drinking local beers.

The Old Town has many shops, restaurants and bakeries which sell a pastry that is divine. It is wrapped round and twisty, you can have it plain, or flavoured  or have it filled with icecream. You must try it.

We went to some of the bars in Old Town and tried the local Czech bars and had a pint or two. Like any city, bars are expensive in the main square but if you venture to the side streets, you find lots of local bars and restaurants.  We went to a Micro-Brewery called The Fat Cat Brewery which was fun, we had a taster of 5 beers and a burger, all for the equivalent of £15.

We also visited  Gulden Draak a belgian bierhuis which is opposite Hotel Unic, the bar was lovely, staff were great and knew about their products. We had a taster of a few belgian beers and spoke about local nightspots.

Nightlife, well there is plenty for you, there are jazz clubs, cocktail bars, classical concerts, there is everything. You can buy tickets daily to see classical concerts.

We went to a place called Hangar on local advice, it was fantastic, a late night bar themed at an airport, very apt for shewholovesadventure. There were trolleys with Panam in there, nosecaps of the plane and a dancefloor. The staff were dressed up in airsteward costumes and were friendly. It’s open til 6am!

We went on a boat ride, it was wonderful. I had booked it online and saved 10% and we had a two hour boat ride up and down the river.  Alas there was no commentary but we enjoyed  the views. If you are time poor, an hour boat ride will suffice.

After this we walked up the hill to Prague Castle, the view was mesmerising, you can walk around the outside of the buildings which are impressive.

We had a traditional beef stew for dinner and a local Czech beer which was reasonable.

On our last night we went night brewery tasting and then went to Hemingway- a gorgeous cocktail bar, the menu was interesting with jazz music. I had a fantastic cocktail which cost the equivalent of 4.40 euros. It was one of the best cocktails I’ve had!

After this we went to Cash Only, a fab bar which.. is a cash only bar, decor was interesting and a stark contrast to Hemingway.

On our last day we went to see The Child of Prague and there was an exhibition on the first floor showing the robes that the statue is dressed in.

We stopped to rest our legs in this lovely location and it was so cheap too, 96 Czech Crowns for two pints just by Museum Kampa. The cheapest so far!

We sat out in the sunshine taking in the views.

If this was in London, you would have paid so much more, the view of the bridge was lovely and so lovely to people-watch.

After, we walked to John Lennon’s Wall which was great to seee in the Spring sunshine and there was a busker singing Hey Jude! Yes I did sing along by the way!

 

We then walked upto Letna Park, we took the long way round and walked up the steep roads.  There were cobbled streets with nice boutiques.

When we hiked to the top, we climbed the tower and saw beautiful vista of Prague.

Then afterwards…

We went to mirror maze too in the park, you must go!  I felt like a child, there were distorted mirrors that made you look like triplets and mirrors that made you tall and short. Had lots of fun! As we made our descent down the hill.. what did we see? A cable car!

We didn’t even know there was one, our poor legs were sore as we had walked 40 miles over the three days.

There’s lots to see and do in Prague, great architecture and budget friendly.
