Antwerp, Belgium have you been there yet? if not, why not?
I’ll tell you why you have to go and visit, see below:
What is there to see? lots of things for the history lover, mussels lover, crepe lover, beer lover, shop lover, frites lover, whatever you want, it’s here! apart from the legend that is Jean Claude Van Damme.
Historical places: such as The Town Hall, The Fort, The Cathedral
There is a beautiful square where the Town Hall is located. You can’t miss it, there are flags galore outside it. You can take a tour inside too, self guided and you can marvel at the marble, it is beautiful.
Belgium is known for it’s beers, it’s frites, crepes and mussels. Everyone uses bicycles so please be mindful when you are taking in the sights. You can rent bikes also.
What else is Belgium famous for?
I’ll give you a clue:
In addition to that is De Koninck Brewery which is fun to visit, it has an interactive tour and tasters of three beers included in the price. What a bargain! It is 15 minutes walk from the city. You’ll find a lovely pub with outdoor seating and somewhere to have a bite to soak up your beer afterwards 🙂 Otherwise, there is a park nearby and you can have a picnic.
Museums : There are museums aplenty including the MAS which has lovely views on the roof. A variety of interesting exhibitions.
I recommend Red Star Line Museum as which is about migration
I have visited Antwerp in the Winter and in the Summer and there is plenty to see and do.
Where to Socialise:
In the Winter, you can find hidden gems and explore the side streets off the main square. There are plenty of places to have tea and cake.
We went to Aper’eau which is a Summer outdoor venue where you can buy tokens and purchase drinks from the bars using tokens and enjoy DJs and a few belgian beers. The atmosphere is fun and cool and there is a great party vibe but is laidback at the same time.
We also went to Plein Publiek which is a pop up party palace which is open til mid May 2017. It is everything you want it to be, it’s for ravers, artists, has a late licence and in the day it can be where you want to do yoga. It has a conservatory as well.Again you can use tokens to purchase drinks, you can have bites to eat. The music was retro, I hadn’t heard some of the music in years, fun people too!
Cafe Culture:
Antwerp has an inviting coffee culture and many cafe’s and bars surround many squares around the city. We would stop off and have a small sensation before heading on our way, you can people watch til your hearts content.
Shopping:
If you love shopping, Antwerp is the place to be, there are wonderful trendy and quirky boutiques. There are outdoor markets and artisan markets to explore also.
You’ll love Antwerp.
